Evan’s Story

Evan Armit, a 2002-born forward from Dryden, Ontario, is a remarkable young man who has always embodied resilience and passion. He played junior hockey in the MJHL with the Winnipeg Freeze and in the NCDC/USPHL with the Islanders Hockey Club. Now in his second year at Worcester State University, Evan is a proud member of the Lancers and a dedicated Business student known for his academic achievements.

Evan’s incredible journey has taken an unexpected turn as he faces his toughest challenge yet: metastatic melanoma.

We had the privilege of being a billet family for Evan during his final year of junior hockey with the Middlesex Islanders. Over that time, Evan became more than just a player in our home—he became part of our family. He’s a big brother to our kids and, to us, he’s like a son.

Evan is not only an incredible athlete, but he’s also a true friend, a role model, and a mentor. The bond he shares with our son Matthew is something truly special, and it’s a relationship we deeply cherish. In fact, Matthew started Matt’s Hats to save up for a trip to Canada this past summer to visit Evan and his family. We have never seen an 8 year old work so hard to achieve his goal, and he did it! We spent the time enjoying each other’s company making some great memories and, of course, enjoyed a lot of firsts including some great walleye fishing at their cabin.

We’re so grateful that Evan chose to continue his hockey journey at Worcester State, which means we get to see him every few weeks for dinner, some fishing, or to catch a game—either Matthew’s or his.

While the news Evan recently shared with us is heartbreaking, we know this young man is a fighter. He’s faced challenges before, and we have no doubt he will rise above this one too. Please keep Evan and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

All proceeds from the sale of Evan’s Hats will be donated directly to Evan’s cancer fundraiser

We love you, Evan. You’ve got this.
